Interior Painting Process
While each project is different, most of the steps remain the same for an interior painting job. We know that we are working in your space and we respect that. So it is important you know what to expect before we show up so you can be more comfortable.
Initial Consultation
Before we begin, we will come by to do an in-person consultation to have a look at the work area so we can ensure we're bringing the right equipment to the property. We will also discuss colours and the scope of work you want completed, and answer any additional questions you may have. Once we know all of the up front details of the project, we will schedule the time to come and get to work, and we will show up that day ready to get started.
Prep The Room
All of the rooms we are going to be painting need to be prepped. We may only prep the rooms we will be working on that day, unless there is significant wall damage that needs to be repaired. We prep rooms by masking any areas that need to be covered, putting down drop cloths to preserve the floors, cover any furniture, and fix any areas of the wall that need to be smoothed out. We will then sand the walls to prepare them for the first coat of paint. If the trim needs a little bit of attention with some sanding or filling of holes, we will do what is necessary with the trim as well.
First Coat
Once everything is prepped, the floors and furniture are protected, then we can apply the first coat of paint. The first cost is meant to go on relatively thick to cover up any old paint, or to adhere to the prime coat if it is a new construction room. Depending on the colour underneath, we may need more than two coats to complete a job. We cut in the corners and edges first to get a perfectly straight line, then we will roll on the main portion of the wall after to cover the entire surface.
Second Coat
The second coat is applied after the first one has been painted, dried, and sanded. The second coat is a little bit thinner and is meant to give the colour that final bit of vibrancy and cover that is necessary. The second coat in many cases will be the final, but sometimes if there is a persistent colour underneath, such as red, then we may need to apply more coats.
Clean Up
Once all of the painting is complete, we will ensure that all of our equipment is cleaned up and any dust that may have been created during the project is completely removed. We leave your home in the exact state it was before we left so that you can enjoy the look and feel of the new colour without needing to do any clean up yourself.
